The Next Brand Ambassador is a talent search reality series looking for South Africa’s top young aspiring marketers, who win a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to work with the marketing team at South Africa’s number one retail bank; Capitec. Contestants compete in tasks that test both their strategic and creative skills. These range from traditional media challenges, such as designing a billboard, conceptualizing a flash mob and implementing a mall activation, to creating digital online campaigns.
The contestants are judged on their performance by a panel of highly respected personalities in the digital marketing and media world, including brand guru, Sylvester Chauke, digital marketing leader, Odette van der Haar, and social media, fashion and entertainment icon, Nandi Madida.
The first 3 episodes show regional finalists competing in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town respectively. The selected 12 national finalists then move to a house in Cape Town for the rest of the series where they are tasked with tackling an array of challenges that are specifically designed to test whether they have the persona, quirky creativity and skill-set to be one of the three winners who become the new faces of the bank.
This was an AFP production. The brief from the banking client was to create a show that mirrored The Apprentice and resulted in three appointments within the marketing department at the bank. I workshopped the challenges with the client and created and developed the show structure from scratch.
